SAN FRANCISCO — The 49ers had a franchise-record six players make the Associated Press' All-Pro First Team, as announced Saturday morning: safety Dashon Goldson, guard Mike Iupati, punter Andy Lee, outside linebacker Aldon Smith and inside linebackers Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman.
"As an organization, we take great pride in the success and recognition of our players," general manager Trent Baalke told the AP. "This type of acknowledgement only comes from hard work and a team-first mentality, which all six of these men exhibit on a daily basis.
"They play the game the way it was meant to be played, and are very deserving of this honor."
Justin Smith earned second-team honors at both defensive tackle and defensive end, while outside linebacker Ahmad Brooks and offensive tackle Joe Staley also made the AP's second team.
Although the 49ers classify Justin Smith as a defensive tackle — that is the spot he earned Pro Bowl invitation — he also garnered AP honors last year at both end (first team) and tackle (second team). Smith, who has a partially torn left triceps tendon, will return from a two-game absence to play in Saturday night's playoff opener against the Green Bay Packers at Candlestick Park.
It's the fifth time Willis has earned first-team honors in his six-year career, having made second-team in 2008. This is Lee's third selection and Bowman's second. They were part of last season's five-man brigade
Iupati and Aldon Smith, first-round draft picks in 2010 and 2011 respectively, are first-time honorees by the AP.
The only Packers honored were quarterback Aaron Rodgers and outside linebacker Clay Matthews, both earning second-team status.
