SANTA CLARA -- Expect to see at least a little bit more of quarterback Colin Kaepernick in the 49ers' third preseason game Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

The 49ers starting quarterback has played only one series in each of the team's first two preseason games, throwing only six passes total.

"Plan to play him longer than he played in the second preseason game," Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh didn't say how much longer that will be. He'll have an idea of how much he wants him to play, but the actual decision will "be a feel."

"Sometimes you've got a plan, but you also need a feel too," Harbaugh said. "I felt like he's gotten a tremendous amount of work in practice. Though you'd like to have him play more in the preseason games, it comes down to a feel there."

In his limited action, Kaepernick has completed 5 of 6 passes for 35 yards and rushed once for six yards. Both of his drives resulted in field goals, although against the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday he had a shot at a touchdown but overthrew an open Chad Hall in the end zone.
