SANTA CLARA -- Former Stanford linebacker Chase Thomas signed Tuesday with the 49ers, already his fifth team since going undrafted in 2013.
Thomas had stints with the New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders before spending last season on the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad. He signed in January with the Green Bay Packers and was released by them May 12.
Also signing with the 49ers was former USC tight end Kevin Greene, an Oakland native and Sacred Heart Prep-San Francisco graduate. He's not related to the former 49ers linebacker with the same name.
Thomas and Greene both auditioned at last weekend's rookie minicamp, and they filled roster spots created by the release of offensive tackle Luke Marquardt and linebacker Morgan Breslin. Marquardt reportedly fractured the same foot that sidelined him all of 2013 as an undrafted rookie. Breslin was a Las Lomas High-Walnut Creek and Diablo Valley College product before playing at USC, where his 2013 season was hampered by a hip injury.
