The 49ers re-signed guard Al Netter to a one-year contract Monday.

Netter, 24, spent time on the 49ers practice squad in 2012 and '13. He also was part of the Tennessee Titans practice squad last season.

Netter, 6-foot-6 and 310 pounds, originally joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

He is expected to compete for a backup spot behind incumbent starters Mike Iupati and Alex Boone on the 53-man roster. Boone skipped the 49ers' offseason program as part of a contract dispute.

Netter attended Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa. He started 52 straight games at Northwestern before he signed with the 49ers after the 2012 NFL draft.
