Help Alameda's homeless animals and attend Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter's "After the Ball" fundraiser from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at Rock Wall Wine Company.

For tickets or to make a donation visit www.AfterTheBall.org, or call 510-337-8575 for information about the event. The tickets are $75 and the shelter hopes to raise $50,000 to match a $50,000 challenge from a generous anonymous donor. What a great way to double the impact that the shelter can have helping Alameda's animals!

The evening will include great food, wine and entertainment. There will be a live and silent auction with items such a diamond with a written appraisal, Southwest Airline tickets to anywhere they fly, sailing tours on the Bay, architect inspired dog houses, and so much more!

October is CATAPALOOZA month where you can adopt one feline (cat or kitten) and get your second feline for half off. The shelter is full of cats and kittens so double the love in your household with two new feline friends.

This is also a great month to have your pet microchipped at the shelter for $20. Microchipping your pet is the best way to ensure a quick reunion with your pet should they become lost. The shelter handles all registration procedures with the microchip company to make this a hassle free experience for you. Microchip clinics are held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesdays and from 11 a.m. to noon on Sundays. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call the shelter at 510-337-8565.

The next Pet Loss Support Group meeting is from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Alameda Animal Shelter. The Pet Loss Support Group is led by Jill Goodfriend, RN, LCSW who offers these groups in other cities and provides individual counseling as well. For more information, or to sign up for the group, please contact Goodfriend at 510-393-1359.
