October is "catapalooza" month at the Alameda Animal Shelter. You can adopt one feline (cat or kitten) and get your second feline for half the adoption fee.

There are so many cats and kittens that would make a wonderful addition to your household. All the kitties are spayed or neutered before adoption; receive a good health check and medications if needed; are microchipped and well socialized.

Double the love in your household with two new feline friends. If you adopt two felines, they can entertain each other when you are away. With winter coming, they can snuggle with one another and share the warmth (and give double the warmth to you, too!). View many of the available felines on the shelter's website at this link http://www.alamedaanimalshelter.org/petfinder.

The shelter is offering low-cost microchip clinics. You can have your pet microchipped at the shelter for $20. If you come in to license your pet, you can also have the animal microchipped for just $15.

Microchipping your pet is the best way to ensure a quick reunion with your beloved companion should they become lost. One of the best reasons to microchip with the shelter is that they will handle the registration process with the microchip company. It is a hassle-free experience for you. Microchip clinics are held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesdays and from 11 a.m. to noon Sundays. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call the shelter at 510-337-8565.

If you haven't checked out GiveGoods yet (www.givegoods.org), take a look at all the great deals on their website. If you select FAAS as your charity of choice, every time you purchase something from all the wonderful Alameda restaurants and businesses listed on their website, GiveGoods makes a donation to FAAS. It's a win-win deal for the businesses and the homeless animals, and a great way to support your community.
