The public is invited to watch as the Alameda and San Leandro police department K-9 teams in action. The K-9 teams compete with each other at Alameda Point on Aug. 3.
The dogs and their handlers will compete and be judged on agility, obedience and protection, as well as how they search.
The free event begins at 9 a.m. and will take place at the Alameda Point Multipurpose Field next to the Alameda Point Gym, 1101 West Redline Ave.
Anyone who attends is encouraged to bring a blanket or chair.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 10 COMMERCIAL BURGLARY -- Someone stole items from a public storage facility in the 1800 block of Webster Street in what police have classified as a burglary. The theft was reported at 3:50 p.m. IDENTITY THEFT -- A resident of Brower Court told police at 3:05 p.m. that someone used his personal information to file a tax return. DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a man, 49, on suspicion of drunken driving about 9:45 p.m. at 29th Avenue and Glasscock Street in Oakland, an intersection near the Park Street Bridge. The man was also allegedly carrying less than one ounce of marijuana.
THURSDAY, JULY 11 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 12:20 a.m. in the 3200 block of Encinal Avenue.
FRIDAY, JULY 12 DRUG POSSESSION -- A cyclist who failed to stop for officers after running a red light on his vehicle tossed methamphetamine as he was attempting to flee, police said. The man, 50, who was arrested about 7:15 a.m. in the 2400 block of Buena Vista Avenue, was also carrying a scale and empty plastic bags, police said. A traffic stop about 11:45 p.m. in the 600 block of Taylor Avenue led to the arrest of another man, also 50, after he was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine, police said. The man was also allegedly driving with a suspended license. DRUG PARAPHERNALIA -- A 53-year-old man whom patrol officers contacted as a suspicious person was arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of a lost credit card and a lost check, as well as a glass narcotics pipe, an altered imitation firearm and marijuana. It happened about 7:45 a.m. in the 1600 block of Fernside Boulevard. RECOVERED STOLEN VEHICLE -- Police recovered a vehicle stolen in Oakland in the 600 block of Buena Vista Avenue just before 4 p.m.
SATURDAY, JULY 13 DRUNKEN DRIVING -- A man, 29, arrested on suspicion of drunken driving was on probation for DUI, plus he was driving with a suspended license, police said. The arrest occurred just before 2 a.m. at Encinal and Park avenues, police said. VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 7:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of Fernside Boulevard. DRUG POSSESSION -- A cyclist whom a patrol officer initially detained for a vehicle code violation was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine. The 31-year-old man, who was arrested just after 4 p.m. at Sherman Street and Pacific Avenue, was also carrying narcotics paraphernalia, police said. COUNTERFEIT MONEY -- Someone passed counterfeit $50 bills at two yard sales in the 3200 block of Liberty Avenue. Police learned about the incidents at 3:50 p.m.
SUNDAY, JULY 14 DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a man, 25, on suspicion of drunken driving just before 1 a.m. at Lincoln Avenue and Hibbard Street. The man was also accused of driving without ever having been issued a license. Police also arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of drunken driving about 2:15 a.m., in the 1300 block of Pearl Street after he allegedly tried to flee from officers during a traffic stop, leading them on a brief vehicle pursuit. His passenger, also 18, was arrested for public intoxication, police said. MARIJUANA POSSESSION -- Police arrested a man, 24, on suspicion of possessing less than one ounce of marijuana while investigating a suspicious vehicle. It happened at 4:10 a.m.
