A free screening of the documentary "In Transition 2.0" will be presented by the groups Transition Albany and Transition Berkeley at 2 p.m. Nov. 4 in the Edith Stone Room of the Albany Library, 1247 Marin Ave.
According to organizers, the 66-minute video "provides an inspirational immersion into the growing Transition movement, with 16 stories gathered from seven countries around the world about people working together to respond to uncertain times with creative solutions and optimism."
Carolyne Stayton, executive director of Transition US, will attend and offer observations on the movement.

Slide presentation on Cuba at library
The Brown Bag Lunch Speaker series hosted by the Albany YMCA and Albany Library will feature a slide presentation on Cuba by longtime Berkeley photographer Don Melandry at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Edith Stone Room, 1247 Marin Ave.
"Cuba, People, Culture and the Arts" will have images Melandry took on a recent visit to the country and a discussion about his experience and impressions.

Albany seeks applicants for boards
"In accordance with Albany Measure H, all board, commission and committee members' terms will end in November, even-numbered years, which coincides with the Municipal Election," the city states.
Panels include the Arts Committee, Charter Review Committee, Civil Service Board,
Community Media Access Committee, Library Board, Mental Health Advisory Board, Park & Recreation Commission, Planning & Zoning Commission, Social & Economic Justice Commission, Sustainability Committee, Traffic and Safety Commission and Waterfront Committee.

Supportive Schools advocacy workshop
A workshop on "Creating Supportive Schools for LGBTQ Youth in Contra Costa County" will be held by the Center for Human Development 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at Harding Elementary School, 7230 Fairmount Ave. in El Cerrito.
Parents, caregivers and families, teachers and administrators are invited to attend and learn about community resources and organizations, and skills and strategies for personal advocacy.

El Cerrito boards need applicants
Applicants are being sought to serve on El Cerrito boards, commissions and committees.
The city has 13 panels on which some 80 people serve as members, making recommendations on areas such as arts and culture, design review, aging issues, crime prevention, economic development, environmental quality, parks and recreation, trees and more.
Anyone interested in serving can get vacancy information and an application by contacting the city clerk at 510-215-4305 or downloading the application form at www.el-cerrito.org.

Garden club sets meeting, benefit event
Floral designer Pat Gibbons will give a presentation when the El Cerrito Garden Club meets and holds its fall fundraiser from 9:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 8 at the Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane.
As for the fundraiser part, "There will be a bountiful tea table with refreshments as well as a raffle of the floral designs, a silent auction, and lots of plants for sale."
Admission is $5 at the door.
Program to hold 'School of Rock' concerts
Youth and adult rock bands from the BandWorks music program will be featured at a pair of upcoming concerts at Ashkenaz Community & Dance Center, 1317 San Pablo Ave.
Student performances will be from 1:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 4, with a lineup of 15 child, teen and adult bands playing classic and newer songs as well as some original works.
Three bands will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at Ashkenaz.
