El Cerrito announces holiday hours
Reduced winter operating hours will be in effect weekdays at El Cerrito's Recycling and Environmental Resource Center, 7501 Schmidt Lane, from Dec. 17 through the end of February, with the gate closing at hour earlier at 4:45 p.m.
The center's winter hours from Nov. 1 through March 1 are 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Regular hours, which resume March 1, are 8 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to to 4:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
City Hall will be closed Dec. 21 through Jan. 1 and the Recreation Department offices at the Community Center will be closed Dec. 24 through January 1. The Swim Center will be open on a modified schedule.
The Recycling Center will be closed Dec. 24 and 25, will close at noon on Dec. 31 and be closed on Jan. 1.
Curbside recycling, green waste and garbage collection will occur as normally scheduled on Dec. 24 and there will be no collection on Dec. 25. Collection resumes on Dec. 26, with pickup days pushed back one day.
Holiday open house at El Cerrito Royale
El Cerrito Royale, an assisted living community behind St. John's Community Center at 6510 Gladys Ave., is holding its Holiday Open House from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 16.
The complex is decorated for the holidays and the annual event will have an assortment of festive beverages and holiday treats. For details or to RSVP call 510-234-5200.
Adult school offers holiday arts and crafts
A Holiday Arts and Crafts Sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at the West Contra Costa Adult School Serra Campus at 6028 Ralston Ave. in Richmond.
Proceeds benefit the adult school's fine arts and senior center programs.
Music and more at Sounds of the Season
Contra Costa Civic Theatre at 951 Pomona Ave. in El Cerrito welcomes the holidays with its annual Sounds of the Season show of traditional and some lesser heard music at 8 p.m. Dec. 15 and 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 16.
"This year's show is nothing like the previous two years," the theater group promises. "You will laugh, smile, and get in the mood for the holidays. Come listen to some great music sung by amazing performers and watch it snow in El Cerrito."

Santa and carolers come to Solano
Carolers from Albany Preschool will entertain when Santa Claus sets up at the Whole Health Apothecary, 1229 Solano Ave. in Albany, from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 15.
The free event includes a free photo with Mr. Claus, popcorn and other treats.
Letters for Santa can also be dropped off at Albany Preschool Cooperative's North Pole Express Mailbox at 850 Masonic Ave.
Youth program will perform at CCCT
The Musical Kids program at Contra Costa Civic Theatre in El Cerrito for young performers age 7 to 10 will present "Disney's Sleeping Beauty, Kids" at 7 p.m. Dec. 18 and 19.

Free holiday week puppet show at library
The family holiday puppet show "One Wacky Winter!" will be presented at 2 p.m. Dec. 27 in the Edith Stone Room at the Albany Library, 1247 Marin Ave.
The production from Children's Fairyland in Oakland tells the story of the Grunch, who lives on winter mountain and is the long lost brother of the Grinch. "This Grunch is taking toys and repairing them in his cave on the mountain and plotting to take over the Toymaker's workshop and stop Winter celebrations forever," says The Puppet Company of its good-natured spoof of the Dr. Seuss classic.
