Sausage-making party this week in Albany
A new series of programs is starting at the Albany Community Center, 1249 Marin Ave., with the latest being an instructional session on making sausage with Chef Rhasaan Fernandez of Sam's Log Cabin from 6:45 to 8 p.m. Feb. 8.
"Learn how to make sausage with a funnel, by hand, or with a sausage maker," says the announcement. "You will make beer brats and Italian sausage, (so) come hungry" and be ready to bring home sausages you've made yourself.
The fee is $10 and space is limited to 20 people, with preregistration required. To register call the center at 510-524-9283.
The Recreation & Community Services Department series is planning live music, movies, demonstrations, lectures and other events for the series at the center, with the schedule online at www.albanyca.org/@thecenter.
Trail restoration work party in El Cerrito
Work parties to do restoration work on the trail in the northern Hillside Natural Area once popular as Motorcycle Hill will be held by the El Cerrito Trail Trekkers group at 10 a.m. Feb. 9 and 23.
Work to improve footing and remove invasive plants will be on a long-obscured trail in the area that was used in the 1920s by motorcycle racers and later became overgrown. Association holding talk on art of Italy
A slide program on the early Renaissance art of Central Italy will be the subject of the first El Cerrito Art Association meeting of 2013, taking place at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane.
The talk by writer and art researcher Edmund Zimmerman is at 7:30 p.m. and will follow a mini art show at 7:15 p.m.
Learn about 'Love During Wartime'
Families can experience what Valentine's Day was like during the World War II home front years at a free event from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Rosie the Riveter World War II/Home Front National Historical Park Visitor Education Center, 1414 Harbour Way South in Richmond.
At the "Love During Wartime" program children can make Valentine arts and crafts and practice the art of letter writing in the center's classroom. At 2 p.m. adults can hear a ranger tell stories of wartime romance and heartbreak and "learn how couples bridged the miles through correspondence during World War II."

Dragon-themed fun for preschoolers
Preschoolers and their parents can hear a funny story and make a fire-breathing cup dragon at a free program at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 9 at the Kensington Library, 61 Arlington Ave.

Introductory session on entrepreneur training series
El Cerrito is preparing for its fourth annual Entrepreneur Training Program series this spring and is holding informational sessions from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 11 and 27 in the Hillside Room at City Hall, 10890 San Pablo Ave., for those who might be interested in enrolling.
The training classes, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays from April 1 to June 22, is for people with a serious interest in starting a new business and current small business owners seeking to improve their operation.

Garden club to hear talk on orchid growing

Cerrito Classics feature for Valentine's Day
The Valentine's Day edition of the monthly Cerrito Classics series will feature a showing of the 1973 Barbra Streisand/Robert Redford feature "The Way We Were" at 7 p.m. Feb 14 at the Rialto Cinemas Cerrito, 10070 San Pablo Ave. in El Cerrito.
