SANTA ROSA -- Allison Chuang of Albany High captured her second straight North Coast Section Division I singles championship Monday, defeating Dougherty Valley's Rickimae Torres 7-5, 6-3 in the final at Santa Rosa High.
Chuang, the No. 1 seed, advanced to the final with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over No. 4 Isabella von Ebbe of Acalanes in the semifinals. Torres, the third-seed, upset No. 2 Mercedes Le of James Logan 6-3, 6-4 in the other semifinal.
Chuang is the eighth player to repeat as singles champion since the NCS tournament began in 1977. The latest to repeat was Laura Posylkin of San Marin in 2009 and 2010.
In the Division I doubles final, second seeds Keiko Kamei and Lise Swain of Redwood beat top seeds Mikaila Smith and Lani Tice of Tamalpais 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Kamei and Swain advanced with a 6-0, 6-1 win over unseeded Marycon Jiro and Jeena Villamor of James Logan. Smith and Tice made it to the finals with a 6-2, 7-6 win over No. 4 Paula Baluyut and Samantha Phan of James Logan.
