ALBANY -- Mariya Moore scored 38 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Salesian High girls basketball team to a 76-57 win over shorthanded St. Mary's in the Tri-County Athletic League tournament championship game Saturday at Albany High.

Moore took over in the second quarter after spending the first quarter trying to pass the ball to her teammates. Moore scored 17 points in the quarter, helping Salesian (24-5) turn a 16-12 lead at the quarter into a 44-28 advantage at the half. She aggressively drove the lane, drawing contact repeatedly, and converting three traditional 3-point plays in the quarter and missing the free throw on a fourth.

St. Mary's (22-7) played its third consecutive game without Gabby Green, who aggravated a shoulder injury on Feb. 8 when the teams met in the TCAL regular season.

The Panthers had no answer for Moore in the middle, with Green, a 6-foot-2 senior headed to Cal, missing.

Moore also had three steals, two assists and a blocked shot.

Mikayla Cowling, also headed to Cal, did her best to keep up for St. Mary's, finishing with 22 points and six rebounds. But she scored 13 of those points in the fourth quarter, long after the game had been decided. That helped the Panthers cut the lead down a bit but it was not enough.
