An armed robber stole 31 packs of Newport cigarettes and more than $100 cash this morning from a convenience store.

A lone female clerk was mopping the floors at the Quick Stop on Farwell Drive when the gunman entered the store at 2:30 a.m. and demanded cash from the register, said Detective Bill Veteran.

As the clerk gathered the money, the robber went behind the counter and grabbed the packs of cigarettes, which he then stuffed into his black hooded sweatshirt, the detective said. He then grabbed the cash and fled from the business.

The robber was described as a thin black man who stood 6 feet 3 inches tall and wore a black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans, a black ski mask and black gloves. He also carried a black handgun.
