FREMONT — An 18-year-old man could face felony charges after stealing three laptop computers from one business and being arrested at another, where he was detained by employees in a restroom, police said.

Sydney Ledbetter of Oakland has been booked into Fremont City Jail on suspicion of grand theft, police said, and could be arraigned today.

Police arrested Ledbetter about 4:10 p.m. Tuesday at Neptec Optical Solutions on Warm Springs Boulevard, about a quarter-mile from the business from which the laptops were stolen, Detective Bill Veteran said.

Employees of Ximeta Inc., a producer of computer storage products, saw a man come into their business and flee on his bicycle with three laptop computers, Veteran said.

An employee chased the thief, and, with the assistance of a passerby in a vehicle, followed him to a nearby business on Warm Springs Boulevard.

Shortly thereafter, employees of that business confronted the suspected thief and trapped him in the restroom until police arrived, the detective said.

When police opened the restroom door, they found Ledbetter standing on a toilet and three laptops stacked in the corner, Veteran said.
