It was chilly, but that didn't stop the stars from shining bright in bared shoulders and plunging necklines Sunday as they arrived at the Beverly Hilton for the 70th annual Golden Globes.
Neutral gowns were all over the red carpet, but the most anticipated trend of the evening: color.
And rightfully so.
Wearing a princess style red Oscar de la Renta, Zooey Deschanel showed E!'s Ryan Seacrest her filmstrip manicure, but it was her choice of color that was the runaway trend on some of the biggest stars of the night. Marion Cotillard wore red Christian Dior. Jessica Lawrence looked elegant in her red Dior Haute Couture — "I don't really know what haute means, but I had to say it," she told E! - accessorized with a skinny belt.
Another red hot red: Claire Danes who, despite having had a baby last month, looked fit in her ruched red Versace.
There were a number of post-baby mamas in attendance, including Megan Fox, who strolled the red carpet in a slinky blush Dolce & Gabbana. Amy Adams wore a Marchesa mermaid gown, with a tulle tail, in "ballet pink."
Sienna Miller wore a '60s-inspired top and skirt with flowers all over. Emily Blunt sported a similar look in gold by Michael Kors.
Lucy Liu looked amazing in a light blue Carolina Herrera with floral motifs here and there and a full skirt. Naomi Watts wore a back-baring, body-hugging long sleeved Zac Posen in maroonish brown.
Julianna Marguilies and George Clooney kept Ryan Seacrest waiting while sharing a moment on the E! stage. The actress wore a black Gucci in revealing lace - another trend to swoon over.
Lace was seen on Michelle Dockery's Alexandre Vauthiere. Julia Louis Dreyfus chose a layered Vera Wang, made up of lace under yards of tulle in different shades.
And while color may have been the biggest trend of the night Kate Hudson didn't let it sway her decision.
She wore black with gold accents, and she was in good company, from Tina Fey's L'Wren Scott black dandelion print on white to Amy Poehler's black tuxedo with the plunging neckline by Stella McCartney. Sofia Vergara chose a sparkling black gown that did justice to her famous curves. Nicole Kidman wore a punked out Alexander McQueen that got the thumbs up from her husband, Keith Urban.
"That's hot! Wear that," he had urged.
Rachel Weisz looked glamorous in her little black retro number on the arm of her beau, Daniel Craig.
Anne Hathaway went the other direction in a white Chanel. And of course no awards ceremony on a night like Sunday would be complete without goosebumps.
The stars made no bones about the weather.
"But actors, we're used to that," Jodie Foster told E! "We're always in bikinis when it's 40 degrees out, and we're always in Eskimo suits when it's hot."
