ANTIOCH -- A man who held his family hostage at gunpoint, then chased them through city streets, was arrested Wednesday outside the Antioch Police Department.

Police received a call shortly before 1:30 p.m. from a 12-year-old girl saying that her father had a gun and was preventing seven people from leaving their home in the 2000 block of Sherman Court. While the girl was on the phone with police, her mother and other children were able to escape the home and drive off, prompting the suspect to follow.

A chase through city streets ensued and ended outside the Antioch Police Department where officers cornered the suspect. The 43-year-old man then locked himself in his car and refused to come out. Officers eventually broke the driver's side window and arrested the suspect.

No one was injured in the incident, but several firearms were found inside the car.

The man, who is not being identified because he was involved in a domestic incident, has been charged with attempted murder, child endangerment, false imprisonment and making criminal threats. His bail has been set at $8.4 million.
