Along with the race for governor of California, eyes will be on Fremont politics this November as eight candidates vie for two open positions on Fremont City Council.
Incumbent Councilmember Raj Salwan; Fremont Unified School District Boardmember Lily Mei; businessman Dirk Lorenz; retired Fremont police Officer Rick Jones; lawyer David Bonaccorsi; interpreter Nancy Liu; resident Syed Ahmed; IT Administrator Martin Froomin; and resident Rakesh Sharma have thrown their hats into the ring.
Salwan's current term is coming to an end and Councilmember Anu Natarjan terms out, following her appointment to the panel in 2004 and her election two years later.
Each candidate brings a different background and insight to the council, however, all contenders interviewed said that ensuring the continued financial success of the city and success of the Warm Springs "Innovation District" and the Fremont Downtown were some of their top priorities.
Not all candidates responded by press time. A full story on the contenders and their backgrounds and platforms will appear in the next issue (Aug. 29).
