Restrict access
I AM writing about the new park at the end of Morrison Canyon Road in Fremont.
I read that a lawsuit has been filed against the East Bay Park District to prevent the park from opening because of the width of Morrison Canyon and Vargas roads.
This lawsuit is unfortunate, but I understand the concerns of the residents regarding the potential fire hazard and response time issues.
However, I have an idea that will work for all parties until the road issues can be resolved.
How about proposing access to the park for only bicyclists, pedestrians and equestrians via Morrison Canyon and Vargas roads?
In winter, Morrison Canyon Road is restricted to local traffic only, but how about doing that year round until the road issues are resolved?
Both ends of Morrison Canyon can be closed to all but local residents' motorized traffic and pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians allowed to use the road to get to the park.
Many local residents hike and bike up Morrison Canyon regularly without incident.
I am one of those people, and I can't wait to gain access to that park.
This idea benefits the residents on Morrison Canyon and Vargas roads as well as Fremont residents who don't mind leaving the car at home to experience the park and the trails.
