Finding excitement
THE LEAD story in the May 8 Local section reports that Steve Huang, Marina Food CEO, said he hopes to make something more exciting than just a nursery at the Navlet's site in Warm Springs district of Fremont.
Huang trivializes not only the whole nursery industry, but also the contribution that nurseries such as Navlet's bring to the community.
In this time of being "green,'' garden centers are and have been on the leading edge of environmental awareness.
In addition, the employees always are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I have spent many hours walking in garden centers, learning and appreciating plant life.
I do not decry Huang in his role as CEO. However, there is excitement to be found in a budding rose, a ripening tomato or the full glory of a blooming azalea.
Huang would benefit by expanding his definition of excitement.

Sad situation
I WAS saddened to see that Navlet's is closing its Fremont location.
There are very few nurseries in the area that offer the expertise, variety and personal service that Navlet's has offered for 35 years. The chain home-improvement places don't come close.
In its place will be yet another strip mall — a mere block from a strip mall.
The developer said it will be Asian-themed
If you want to see Fremont's future, go check out the Asian-themed strip mall at Dixon Landing and Milpitas Boulevard.
Are we going to continue to sell Fremont's soul for potential sales tax revenue?
