Last weekend's 15th annual Ducks for Bucks benefit race raised a total of $23,924 for 34 Tri-City area nonprofits, organizers said.

The Newark Girls Softball League raised the most money this year, selling 1,435 ducks at $5 apiece, and keeping $5,490 for itself .

It was followed by Bayside 4-H Club, which raised $3,534; the Kiwanis Club of Fremont ($2,254); Tri-Cities League of Volunteers ($1,714); and Glenmoor Elementary School ($1,218).

The eight ducks that were first to cross the finish line won prizes for their adopters.

  • David Walker of Fremont won the first prize, $1,800 toward a new floor covering.

  • Norma Roman-Prudent of Fremont won the second prize, a year of weekly massages valued at $1,750.
