Southern Alameda County
SCHOOL DONATIONS: About a dozen schools in Southern Alameda County recently each received $1,000 grants from Wells Fargo.
The funds will support programs such as sports and music or pay for classroom supplies and books.
The recipients included Centerville Junior High and Kennedy and Irvington high schools in Fremont; Alvarado Middle School and Logan High in Union City; and Lincoln Elementary and Newark Memorial and Crossroads high schools in Newark.
In Hayward, Bret Harte Middle School and Mt. Eden, Tennyson and Hayward high schools also received grants.
Fremont
open houses: California School for the Blind and Mission Valley Regional Occupational Program will have open houses on Thursday.
The open studio at the blind school will run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. so members of the public can learn about its art program. The school is at 500 Walnut Ave. Visitors should check in at the administration building upon arrival. For information, call 510-794-3800, ext. 235.
In the evening, from 6:30 to 8, the Mission Valley program will celebrate its 40th anniversary with an open house. Refreshments will be served. The school is at 5019 Stevenson Blvd. For information, visit www.mvrop.org or call 510-657-1865.
FUN
The sports fund provides scholarships to student athletes throughout the school year, including about $5,000 in scholarships this fall.
New Haven
Celebrating longevity: Fifty-nine New Haven employees who collectively have worked 1,465 years in the district were recognized at Tuesday's school board meeting.
Employees who worked 40 years were Mary Coppini and Donna Lindsay. Those who reached the 35-year mark were Sharon Hope, Nobuyuki Kawaguchi, Richard Lawrence and Don Montoya. Thirty-year employees were Randall Baumback, Joe Caruso, Rochelle Gould, Frank Hernandez, Annette Iwamoto, Carol Meyers, Taffy Opheim, Janice Schaefer, Maria Spratley, Giovanni Sturlini and Mary Yuen.
Employees who have been there 25 years were Pricilla Aganon, Doreen Anthony, Gregory Bodmer, Julie Cervantez, Blake Chong, Jenny Curnow, Dave Forrest, Estela Herrera-Sajadi, Janet Keane, Patsy Lockhart, Mark Martin, Stephanie Papas, Aurora Vinci, Karen Wildes and Joanne Zachariades.
Twenty-year employees were Sandra Atkinson-Adams, Betty Brumfield, Sheila Campos, Eric Cross, Paula Hague, Aziza Hamidi, Robin Hernandez, Neeru Kapoor, Grace Kim, Debbie Knupfer, Debra Lowther, Jorge Maldonado, Beatrice Markiel, Manuela Munoz, Maria Navarro, Carol Nieves, Cheryl Perez, Manjula Prasad, Laurie Renault, Maria Rivera, Carole Segall, Yvonne Stewart, Grace Taylor, Patricia Van Buren, Jeffrey Weinmann, Debra Wilson and Harold Woll.
