Caltrans is closing a westbound lane of the Bay Bridge upper deck from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on weekdays through Nov. 13 for inspections of a cracked eyebar.

The transportation agency stepped up the inspections after reinforcing the eyebar during a six-day bridge closure that ended Tuesday morning.

Also, Caltrans will continue closing two westbound lanes on the Bay Bridge on weekends between 11 p.m. Fridays and 7 a.m. Saturdays and between 11 p.m. Saturdays and 9 a.m. Sundays. The weekend closures will continue for weeks or months until Caltrans comes up with a longer-term fix for the cracked eyebar.

Caltrans advises motorists to leave early for destinations or consider alternative routes.

Eastbound traffic will not be affected.
