OAKLAND — Bishop O'Dowd High football star Chris Martin said Wednesday that he could be leaving O'Dowd to attend Hun School of Princeton — a boarding school in New Jersey — for his senior year of high school.
"We are in the process of doing all the paperwork and I still have to get accepted," said Martin, who orally committed to Notre Dame on Feb. 4. "It is still very early, but if everything does follow through then I will be going out there. There is a chance that I might not be going, but that is up to my mother."
The highly-recruited linebacker wants to go through the early enrollment program at Hun School and then enroll at Notre Dame for the spring of 2010. That would make him available for spring practices.
"The big factor is I looked into the early enrollment policy at O'Dowd and there isn't one," Martin said. "And the transferring (rules) in (California) are so hard to beat. Prep school doesn't have any type of transfer rules or anything.
"The whole early spring process helps out a lot," he added. "I am not interested in the whole second semester of my senior year. I would rather go to college. "... If you get accommodated with the playbook, then everything else is easier in the fall."
