Four years ago, the No.6-seeded Warriors knocked off top-seeded Monte Vista en route to their first section title.
On Thursday, the Warriors knocked off another top-seeded team. This time it came in the quarterfinals as No.9 Mission upset No.1 Redwood 4-3 in a thriller from beginning to end at Harbor Point Tennis Club.
"It was an unbelievable scene," Mission's first-year coach Bill Patton said.
Mission (19-5) advances to the semifinals in which it will face the defending section champs and No.5-seeded Alameda, which knocked off No.4 Amador Valley 6-1. The match will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Heritage High-Brentwood.
The winner advances to Saturday's final.
The clincher Thursday came at No.4 singles as Mission's Brandon Nguyen beat Arrash Moghodassi 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5).
"(Brandon) had four match points and faced two match points," Patton said. "If he doesn't win that, we go home. He came up huge. He was just playing to win."
A freshman duo at No.3 doubles, Calvin Chiang and Tony Lin also claimed a thrilling three-set victory over Jonathan Kaplan and Saam Arzang 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
"They played incredibly great," Patton said. "Great composure."
