With a 25-17, 25-8, 25-10 win over visiting James Logan in the Mission Valley Athletic League championship game Thursday night, the Huskies collected the league's automatic berth into next week's North Coast Section Division I playoffs.
"We were so motivated to win in three games," Washington coach Eva Choy said. "Every pass, set and hit had to be clean."
No. 2-seeded Logan came into the match with a ton of momentum. The Colts (17-15) lost their first two games to Moreau Catholic in the semifinals Tuesday, then stormed back to claim the match.
But the Colts ran into a top-seeded team in Washington that is hitting its stride.
"They're easily a top-four seed," Logan coach Mike Soltau said of Washington. "They're incredible."
Logan's fate will be determined in the NCS seeding and at-large committee meeting on Saturday. Soltau thinks his team has done enough to earn an at-large berth.
"We've played strong against a lot of the top 10 teams," Soltau said. "We have a win over California, and we finished second in league."
As for the Huskies (27-5), they're looking for respect in the NCS seeding meeting. They went 10-0 in league and swept the MVAL playoffs.
"We're fighting for No. 1 or 2 (seed)," Choy said.
Early on, it looked as if this match was going to be a battle. In the first game, there were four lead changes. With the match tied
But the Huskies went on a 13-5 run to win the first game. It was all Washington after that.
"We weren't going to let happen what happened to Moreau," Choy said. "There was no way we were going to give up this game."
Washington's Abhinav Janghala, a middle blocker, had a match-high 19 kills. Pranay Kappera, a setter, had 38 assists.
