Gilroy's Robert Guerrero knew he had made the right decision to withdraw from the biggest fight of his career when he entered the Stanford Hospital room of his wife, Casey, to break the news.

"She didn't say much, but I could tell she's happy that I'm going to be by her side," Guerrero said Tuesday.

Casey, 26, is fighting for her life. She underwent a bone marrow transplant procedure Jan. 25 in the latest procedure of her long-running battle with leukemia.

The Guerreros have two children, Savannah, 4, and Robert Jr., 2.

Robert Guerrero (25-1-1), holder of a junior lightweight belt, decided he couldn't go through with the March 27 bout on HBO against Michael Katsidis. Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions said a new opponent is being sought for Katsidis (26-2), but the card will be moved out of the San Jose area.

    Outfielder Willy Taveras was released by the A's, eight days after he was acquired from Cincinnati with infielder Adam Rosales for infielder Aaron Miles and a player to be named.     Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles say the man who stalked ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and shot nude videos of her through a hotel room peephole videotaped 16 other women and ran background checks on 30 others. Michael Barrett, 48, has pleaded guilty to interstate stalking and agreed to a 27-month prison sentence. A judge will sentence him March 8.
