OAKLAND -- The A's will implement a new walk-through metal detection system for fans entering the Coliseum beginning Thursday night against the Minnesota Twins.
Similar to airport security, fans will have bags searched and will need to empty pockets of keys, cell phones and other items before walking through a metal detector.
The A's recommend that ticket holders enter the stadium gates when they first open to allow ample time for this new security procedure. Gates will open at 5:35 p.m. Thursday, 4:30 p.m. Friday, and 11:05 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
The NFL and NBA already has implemented leaguewide walk-through security systems and Major League Baseball hopes to have them in place throughout both leagues by next year.
