OAKLAND — With the season on the line, manager Bob Melvin changed the A's lineup a bit to try and get his hottest hitters in the game against Detroit pitcher Justin Verlander.
Yoenis Cespedes moved into the cleanup spot from fifth, Seth Smith moved up to fifth and Brandon Moss dropped from fourth to sixth. And Alberto Callaspo got his first start of the series, playing second base while batting seventh, a move that drops Josh Reddick to eighth.
The Tigers, for their part, are going with Jhonny Peralta batting sixth again after he didn't start any of the first two games in Oakland last weekend.
The difference from Game 3 and 4 in Detroit is that Peralta is at shortstop while Don Kelly starts in right because Kelly is more of an offensive threat that Jose Iglesias.
``I think like any game, particularly in a Game 5, you're looking to get your best lineup, your hottest hitters up there as much as you can.
``Similar to what they're doing with Peralta at shortstop, they're trying to get their best offense in there, and that's the reason Callaspo is in there.''
