OAKLAND — Right-handed pitcher Raul Alcantara, one of players picked up from Boston by the A's after the 2011 season, was added to the Oakland roster Wednesday.
The move brings the A's 40-man roster to 39, with the one open spot likely to be used in the Rule 5 draft if the A's don't use it to sign a free agent between now and draft Dec. 12.
The 20-year-old native of the Dominican Republic came to Oakland along with outfielder Josh Reddick and first baseman Miles Head on Dec. 28, 2011 when the A's shipped Andrew Bailey and Ryan Sweeney to Boston.
Alcantara split his 2013 season between Class-A Beloit and Class-A Stockton. He started 27 games, posting g 12-6 record with a 3.11 ERA.
