PHOENIX -- Relievers Sean Doolittle and Ryan Cook will take the start to spring training slowly.

Doolittle, who injured his right calf while running the other day, and Cook, who has a bit of a sore right shoulder, will be monitored closely, manager Bob Melvin said.

Both players expect to be able to start the season on the 25-man roster, though in Cook's case it's not an absolute guarantee.

Cook will be kept off the mound in the early going, Melvin said on Friday as pitchers and catchers reported and underwent physicals.
