PHOENIX -- A group of the A's, including four of the team's Venezuela-born players, posed around a Venezuelan flag Monday morning as a way to show support for the embattled Venezuelan population.
The photo was set up by Fernando Nieve over growing concern for his countrymen and included Venezuelans Alberto Callaspo, Jose Flores and Jose Martinez.
Fellow Venezuelan Darwin Perez was not in the photo because he's had trouble getting his visa to leave the country to report.
"We know what's happening back home," Nieve said. His parents still live in the country, and he plays winter ball there. "This is a way to stand up with Venezuela.
"You see it on the street there. People can't find food."
Opposition to the government reportedly is leading to rallies and political instability is rampant.
