PHOENIX — The news on A's third baseman Josh Donaldson is all good, although he wasn't taking part in the A's full workout Monday.

Donaldson came out of Sunday's game in Goodyear against the Reds with a minor calf injury, and manager Bob Melvin said Monday morning that the original diagnosis holds that the injury is indeed minor.

The A's will not take any chances. Donaldson was not originally scheduled to play Monday against the Cubs in Phoenix, and Melvin said he probably wouldn't play against the White Sox in Glendale on Tuesday. He's on track to return to third base Wednesday against Cleveland in Goodyear.

"He might not play (Tuesday),'' Melvin said. ``If not, then the next day."
