RANGERS UPDATE
If Texas' bats look a bit slow tonight, the Rangers might blame their travel schedule. The team played Thursday night in Seattle before having to fly home late to face the A's in the opener of this three-game series. ... Shortstop Michael Young left Wednesday's game against the Mariners with a sore left hip flexor muscle. He wasn't in the starting lineup Thursday and was listed as day-to-day. ... The Rangers took two of three in Oakland last weekend, but working in the A's favor is their rotation for the series. Smith and Eveland take the hill in the first two games, and Texas is just 2-6 this season against left-handed starters, though they beat Erik Bedard on Wednesday.
