OAKLAND -- A man was shot and killed Wednesday night during a suspected robbery at a cell phone store.

Police confirmed that an adult male was shot in the torso around 7 p.m. in the Metro PCS store on the 9200 block of International Boulevard.

Authorities could not say whether there were any suspects or what led to the fatal encounter.

Officers and firefighters responded to the store after they had received multiple calls that someone was shot. Police roped off the area while officers investigated.

The identity of the man was not released.

Small crowds gathered on street corners across from the store and watched in the rain as officers came and went from the store.

One observer, a 17-year-old boy, said he was walking down International Boulevard when he heard a gunshot.

"Someone just got shot down the road yesterday," said the boy, shaking his head. "This happens all the time here."
