CONCORD -- A 20-year-old Concord man was arrested Wednesday evening after a police chase that ended with him being Tased by police, authorities said.

About 5:30 p.m., officers spotted two suspicious men fueling up a 1967 Mustang at a gas station on Clayton Road and Kirker Pass Road, Lt. Darrell Graham said. Officers ran the plates of the Mustang and found it had been reported stolen out of Martinez.

When officers tried to stop the vehicle, which was then occupied by only the driver, he took off, leading police on a chase with speeds reaching 70 miles per hour, Graham said. The car fled southbound on Farm Bureau Road then westbound on Chestnut Avenue before tearing through El Monte Shopping Center at Chestnut Avenue and Clayton Road.

The driver slammed into a car driving on Clayton Road before spinning into a tree and wrecking the car, Graham said. The suspect got out and ran about 30 feet before officers caught up to him and Tased him, ending the chase.

Officers arrested Taylor Michelson, 20, on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and evading arrest, Graham said. The driver of the vehicle he hit on Clayton Road was not injured in the crash.

Graham said Michelson had previously been arrested Nov. 4 in Concord when police pursued him driving another stolen car, and was charged by the District Attorney for the offense Nov. 8.

The second person suspected in the incident, who was helping Michelson get gas at the Clayton Road gas station, has not yet been found, Graham said.
