OAKLAND -- Police have arrested two men suspected in a violent armed robbery Monday afternoon where a man was left bloodied with a head injury, police said.
The victim's condition was not immediately available but his injury is not considered life threatening, police said.
The two men are suspected of beating the man during a home invasion robbery about 12:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of Redwood Road, police said. It was not clear if the man lives there or was outside the home.
Police at 1:30 p.m. arrested one suspect, a 23-year-old man hiding in bushes between a house and an apartment complex in the 3500 block of Quigley Street. Police found the second suspect, also 23, in bushes in the 3200 block of Delaware Street, where yards are adjacent to the shoulder of Interstate 580. Their names were not released.
Oakland police were assisted by an Oakland schools police officer, who spotted the two suspects as they drove away from the home in a van and chased them in a school patrol car.
The suspects fled southbound on 35th Avenue, struck some cars at the intersection of 35th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard and then ran from their van, police said.
Police closed several streets, including Redding and Quigley streets between Loma Vista Avenue and 35th Avenue, to search for the suspects. Traffic on I-580 was stopped briefly at least twice.
A police dog searched through yards and a police helicopter was overhead helping ground units.
