CONCORD -- A man attending a funeral service at Ouimet Bros. Concord Funeral Chapel suffered a broken leg when a vehicle crashed into the building on Sunday afternoon.

Police said in a news release that two cars, both driven by 16-year-old males, were involved in the incident and based on statements, "may have been involved in an exhibition of speed."

The cars had been traveling westbound on Clayton Road when one, a 1974 Chevrolet Nova, swerved off the road and into the funeral home at 4125 Clayton Road, hitting the building's foyer and injuring a 66-year-old man.

Both the driver and the passenger in the Nova were taken to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, while the man who was struck was taken to Highland Hospital.

Officers were dispatched about 1:35 p.m. to the funeral chapel, a fire dispatcher said.

The chapel was full at the time of the crash.

A viewing for Claycord.com photographer Mike "Radar" Dunn had been scheduled to be held Sunday evening at the chapel. Because of the damage, a nearby Salvation Army church offered use of its facilities, authorities said.

Police are investigating and no arrests have been made.

Anyone who has information about the collision is asked to contact Officer Ron Bruckert at 925-671-3311, ext. 4365.
