A symposium discussion on the increased growth of gang involvement in human trafficking and criminal activity will air on cable television stations this week.

The program will air on channel CCTV at 8 p.m. Thursday and at 10 a.m. Friday. Sponsored by Supervisor Federal Glover and the East County Gang Task Force, the two-hour symposium was held Dec. 17 at the Boys & Girls Club of East County in Pittsburg.

During the symposium, Glover said that most human trafficking victims are American-born, countering the perception that it is mostly foreign nationals who are victimized.

Speakers included Larry Lawrence, a deputy attorney general for California who spoke about the findings of his office's just released report on the $35 billion human trafficking industry.

Local law enforcement officials also described help available to gang members incarcerated in Contra Costa County's juvenile and adult detention facilities as well as programs geared to juvenile females arrested on other charges who are also victims of human trafficking.

CCTV is found on Comcast Channel 27, Astound channel 32 and AT&T U-verse channel 99. For additional air dates, visit CCTV's program guide at www.contracostatv.org.
