LIVERMORE -- The public is invited to watch East Bay science whizzes battle it out in the 2013 Regional Science Bowl, to be held Saturday at Las Positas College.

Sandia/California National Laboratories and the college are hosting the regional competition for the 14th consecutive year. Students from 24 area high schools are expected to compete.

The competition will run until 4 p.m. and kicks off with a welcome and bracket selection at 8:45 a.m. in the Main Stage Theater of the Mertes Center for the Arts (Building 4000) on the college campus.

The first round begins at 9:20 a.m. The top teams from each bracket move on to final elimination rounds, that begin at 1 p.m. An awards ceremony follows at 4 p.m.

Admission and parking are free.
