OAKLEY -- A grassroots group that wants to establish an equestrian center in Oakley will hold a planning meeting Feb. 7.
The gathering, which is open to anyone who's interested in the idea and would like to help make it a reality, will be 6:30 p.m. at the city's "White House" at 204 Second St., Oakley.
Horse lovers and others involved in Promoting Agricultural Community & Equestrian -- PACE, for short -- will collect the names and contact information of people willing to help get the ball rolling. The initial legwork includes filling out the paperwork to obtain nonprofit status for PACE and identifying property around Oakley that might lend itself to a center where not only horse owners can show and compete but where agricultural groups such as 4-H can hold their activities.
