Antioch police are investigating the shooting of a 7-year-old boy in the backyard of a home on William Reed Drive on Saturday afternoon.
Medics airlifted the boy by helicopter to Children's Hospital Oakland after he was struck by one round. Antioch police said the boy is expected to survive.
The child and his parents were visiting from out of town for a barbecue. No one else was injured, police said.
Someone called police at 4:17 p.m. to report a weapon had been fired in the yard multiple times. Investigators said the gunfire came from an area near the G Street overcrossing.
Children's Hospital could not yet be reached for comment.
