The commute from between San Francisco and the East Bay was hindered Wednesday morning when a dump truck hit the roof of the bottom span of the Bay Bridge, the California Highway Patrol said.

Nobody was injured in the wreck, which happened at about 6 a.m. on Interstate 80 east of the Treasure Island offramp. A blue dump truck proved to be too big for the bridge, and the roof of the truck hit the concrete roof that separates the upper and lower spans.

Damage to the bridge was minimal, according to the CHP, but the wreck forced the closure of one lane and backed up the commute.

The CHP issued a Sig-alert around 6:35 a.m. and crews were called to the scene to clear the concrete debris. The Sig-alert was canceled at 7 a.m. and lanes were reopened to traffic.
