HAYWARD -- A celebration of 50 years of peace and justice activism in southern Alameda County is planned for Friday.

Keynote speaker will be Barbara Lubin. co-founder of the Middle East Children's Alliance of Berkeley, who will talk about the value of volunteer activism. The Middle East Children's Alliance is a nonprofit group focusing on the rights of children in Palestine, Israel, Lebanon and Iraq.

Exhibits highlighting past actions and ongoing efforts also are planned.

Organizations taking part include the Hayward Area Peace and Justice Fellowship, Tri-City Peace and Justice, All Saints Church Justice and Peace Committee, Peace and Pizza, and Southern Alameda County Peace and Justice Coalition.

The free celebration begins at 7 p.m. at Westminster Hills Outreach Center, 27287 Patrick Ave. (across the street from Weekes Branch Library).
