SAN JOSE -- A number of suspects were arrested Monday night in Morgan Hill after leading police on a high-speed chase that started after shots were fired at a business in San Jose, officials said.
The CHP was notified of the chase in progress at 8:43 p.m., when the suspects in the shooting -- in which nobody was injured -- were headed north on Interstate 680 in a black Mercedes-Benz SL500. The driver got off the freeway at Hostetter Road, then got back on the highway and ended up leading officers on a chase through "light to moderate traffic" on southbound Highway 101, said CHP Officer Peter Van Eckert.
A CHP helicopter monitoring the chase from above clocked the car at going in excess of 100 mph, Van Eckert said.
The driver pulled off the Tennant Avenue offramp in Morgan Hill and an unspecified number of suspects were taken into custody without incident just before 9:30 p.m., Van Eckert said.
"It was a decently long pursuit," he said. "It was on and off again. I don't know what led him to eventually pull over."
No additional information about the suspects was available Monday night.
