Council talks goals, parking
The Carmel City Council meets both Monday and Tuesday.
At a 5:30 p.m. Monday workshop, the council will seek public input on the city's goals for 2014. The council each year adopts a list of goals based on the interests of residents and businesses.
At its 4:30 p.m. Tuesday meeting, the council will discuss how to manage downtown parking. The council will also honor resident Marian Leidig for her upcoming 100th birthday on Dec. 30.
Both meetings are in the council chambers on Monte Verde Street between Ocean and Seventh avenues.
Bay Area station KTVU going away
Starting Dec. 12, Comcast customers can stop looking for KTVU Fox 2 from the San Francisco Bay Area.
The reason, according to Comcast, is that the Fox network restricts Fox-affiliated stations from being carried on cable systems outside their local market.
To comply, Comcast, which has been carrying KTVU and KCBA-TV Fox 35 from Monterey (the KION newscast), is dropping the Bay Area affiliate.
Viewers can still watch "American Idol," San Francisco 49ers games and other Fox national content on KCBA.
Comcast spokesman Bryan Byrd said viewers looking for Bay Area news have several options starting Sunday: KTVU Morning News, from 5 to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 to 10 a.m. Sunday, and the KTVU 10 O'Clock News can be seen on KCBA (Cable Channel 3 and in high definition on Channel 702).

Open burning can start Sunday
Cal Fire will lift restrictions on open burning starting Sunday in Monterey County.
The move coincides with the opening of the backyard burn season for the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District. With cooler temperatures and shorter days, the danger has decreased of fires getting out of control.
Still, state fire officials say, with below-average rainfall this year, anyone doing any burning should make sure there are enough control measures in place.
Local Cal Fire and fire district stations can assist with burning permits. The air pollution district also requires a smoke management permit.
Volunteers sought to pack food for homeless
Volunteers are needed to help pack rice and beans for distribution to the hungry and homeless in Monterey County from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday in the Vista Lobos Community Room, Third Avenue between Torres Street and Junipero Avenue.
