OAKLAND -- A man has been charged in the fatal shooting Saturday morning of a 26-year-old acquaintance in East Oakland.
Police said Lamar Shaw, 20, has admitted his involvement in the death of Xzavier Johnson, of Stockton, who was killed as the result of a personal dispute between the two.
Johnson was shot several times about 10:20 a.m. Saturday on Lyon Avenue around the corner from the 2400 block of High Street, where Shaw lived.
A friend started driving Johnson to a hospital but stopped in the 2700 block of Foothill Boulevard to summon help. Johnson was pronounced dead there.
Witnesses identified Shaw as the suspected gunman, police said. Police began looking for him and he surrendered to officers early Sunday morning outside police headquarters at Seventh Street and Broadway.
Sgt. Michael Cardoza said in court documents that police searched Shaw's home and recovered a pistol that is being tested to see if it was used in the shooting.
Police said even though Johnson lived in Stockton, he frequently visited Oakland where he had family and friends.
Shaw is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail.
