An intoxicated man who pulled out a handgun when a family member in Redwood Shores tried to prevent him from driving was arrested Saturday, according to Redwood City police.
Justin Bristow, 29, was taken into custody at his San Mateo residence without incident, police reported Wednesday.
Bristow was visiting a male relative on the first block of Pelican Lane on Friday and got into a fight with him and other tenants of the condo complex when he tried to drive after drinking, according to Lt. Sean Hart.
Officers responded at about 5:39 p.m. to a report of a person who had brandished a weapon during an argument with others and fled in a blue 1998 Volvo V70. As he sped off, the man almost collided with another vehicle, officers were told.
Minutes later, Belmont police began receiving calls about a man driving around that city while holding up a gun. Belmont officers located Bristow, who initially stopped but then took off at a high rate of speed as they approached his vehicle, according to police.
Detectives located an address in San Mateo associated with the Volvo and at about 10 p.m. found Bristow's vehicle parked near the residence.
Redwood City police obtained a search warrant and an arrest warrant for Bristow and took him into custody around 5 a.m. the next day at his San Mateo home, where they also found a replica handgun believed to be the one he pulled out in public.
