CLAYTON -- A man suffered major head injuries Thursday morning in a head-on collision between two pickup trucks near Clayton, the California Highway Patrol said.

The two-vehicle crash happened at 8:05 a.m. on Marsh Creek Road, west of Morgan Territory Road, according to the CHP. A man driving a Chevy S-10 drifted over into the eastbound lane and struck a Chevy 1500, authorities said.

The driver of the Chevy S-10 was not wearing his seatbelt, suffered major head trauma, and was taken by ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. The driver of the Chevy 1500, who was wearing his seatbelt, was not injured, the CHP said.

Both drivers were traveling at about 40 mph before the crash. Marsh Creek Road was shut down as emergency crews responded.
