BERKELEY -- A 24-year-old Oakland man remained in critical condition Monday after being hit Sunday night by a car driven by an 83-year-old woman who was arrested for driving under the influence.
The man was walking in the intersection of Hearst Avenue at Spruce Street at about 8:30 p.m. when he was hit, witnesses told police. The woman, Mary Lou Cordova of San Pablo, stayed at the scene after the accident, police said.
Cordova was arrested and booked into the Berkeley jail on one felony count of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs causing bodily injury. Her bail was set at $75,000 and she was due to be arraigned at 2 p.m. Monday.
