Food donations for the needy can be dropped off onboard County Connection buses through Dec. 9 during the public transit system's annual food drive.

Plastic crates to accept food donations for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano will be placed at the front of all County Connection buses in Central Contra Costa County and the San Ramon Valley.

The most needed items are canned meat, peanut butter, dried rice, pasta, cereal, tomato products and 100 percent fruit juices. Glass containers should not be donated because of the risk they will break.

Last year, County Connection passengers donated 850 pounds of food during the annual food drive.
